ABOUT US

Sun Dial Manor, Inc. was an outgrowth of a 1965 public meeting held to determine interest in providing a home for elderly residents in the Bristol area. This led to formation of a not-for-profit corporation to develop and operate a community nursing home. The purpose of the Sun Dial Manor Foundation is to receive and hold gifts and property and to invest and expend these charitable donations to “aid in caring for the aging and ill”. We are grateful for the many memorial donations and gifts given throughout the years which have allowed Sun Dial Manor to continue to provide ” a great place to call home” for many, many residents.

An attractive facility was built that welcomed its first residents in 1968. Additional rooms and living spaces have been added since then, including the Simonson Activity Room and the Johnson Assisted Living Center. Today we have accommodations for 37 residents requiring Skilled Nursing Care and 16 residents who live in an assisted living setting.

Sun Dial Manor is licensed by the State of South Dakota and is Medicare and Medicaid certified. Our Board of Directors is a 9-member board elected at the annual meeting.

Sun Dial Manor is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors elected at the annual meeting from within the membership of the Sun Dial Manor Foundation. Each director serves a three year term and can be re-elected indefinitely based on membership support.

Our philosophy is to make residents’ lives as comfortable, secure, happy and independent as possible. Through a team effort of staff, physicians, consultants and volunteers we provide skilled and loving care to all our residents.

We pledge to pursue ongoing improvements in our facility and our service. Our facility is inspected annually by the South Dakota Department of Health. The results of our most recent inspection are available for examination.

Upkeep of the grounds and facility is very important to the Board of Directors, Administration and staff, residents and families. Our most recent improvement was redecorating the whirlpool room into a “spa-like” area. This year we will be replacing 2 old windows in the Sun Room and Beauty Shop with bow windows. The Beauty Shop will also be enlarged and a customized shampoo bowl installed to ease the positioning of the resident while being shampooed. The lighting in the Johnson Center will be updated with more energy efficient lightbulbs and the front entrance will be upgraded to be handicapped-accessible, more energy efficient, and constructed with a canopy to protect residents and guests from the elements.
