Sun Dial Manor, Inc. operates as a corporation under South Dakota regulations. Anyone can become a life-time member of the corporation by paying a one-time deposit of $25. Nine of our members are chosen for our Board of Directors, and the board is responsible for operation of the facility.
Administrator - Peggy Pearson, BSN
The Board of Directors hired Peggy Pearson to be facility Administrator in 2002. A graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, , Peggys distinguished career in health care has focused on care of the elderly. She is licensed as a facility administrator, plus she has experience working with health, life and long-term care insurance.
A full-time activities program provides residents with individual and group activities. The Activity Department schedules a variety of events, and families are invited to attend. Special events are noted on our Welcome page under Upcoming Events and The Sun Dial Blog.
Weekly activities include Fun with Food, bowling, ring toss, horse shoes, table games such as BINGO, Lucky 7 Keno, and Bunco, spiritual groups, Protestant church service and Catholic Mass, music and spontaneous outings on our bus.
Throughout the year, special days are observed. We have a monthly birthday party, most often on the first Saturday of each month. Each resident having a birthday during that month is honored and friends and families are always invited to attend.
Volunteers from the community help in many areas such as providing live music, operating the weekly courtesy cart, providing nail care, and other activities.
The Nursing department at Sun Dial Manor and Johnson Center is comprised of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Restorative Therapy Aides and Certified Nursing Assistants, all working under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing. Each residents care is directed by his or her physician, and the nursing staff provides the individual and personalized care as needed. Resident medications are obtained from their pharmacy of choice, and are administered by licensed nurses according to the physicians prescription.
Resident Care Conferences are held immediately after admission and at least every 90 days thereafter, or more frequently if necessary.
Family members are encouraged to assist staff with developing individualized care plans to fit the lifestyle, physical and emotional needs and personal preferences of the resident. Even if family members are not able to attend a care conference we encourage and appreciate their input via telephone conversations or meetings.
Sun Dial Manors Dietary Department prepares and serves nutritious, home-cooked meals based on a five-week menu cycle. The menus are written by the Dietary Manager and approved by a Consultant Dietitian. The menu offers ample variety and regional favorites.
Therapeutic diets, as prescribed by the residents physician, are approved by the dietitian and served to residents when clinically necessary. Results achieved by the therapeutic diet are monitored by the Dietary Manager and Nursing staff.
Family and friends are encouraged to eat meals at Sun Dial Manor with their loved ones. Guests should contact the dietary staff in advance if they will be dining with a resident.
Sun Dial Manor's Social Service Coordinator visits routinely with residents and their family members to assist the resident with social, emotional, or financial needs. The SSC works to ensure that all residents are treated with respect and dignity and are allowed to exercise their Resident Rights. We have an arrangement with Northeastern Mental Health Center for a licensed social worker to assist our Social Service Coordinator in meeting any special psycho- social needs of the residents.
Family members are encouraged to visit the resident as frequently as possible. Our flexible, open hours allow family members to visit briefly or for an extended time at any hour of the day.
Pastoral care and spiritual support are provided on a daily basis and as the need arises. Protestant church services and Catholic mass are provided on premises by area ministers and priests. To meet the ongoing needs of its residents, Sun Dial Manor has a part-time Chaplain on its staff.
The dedicated Housekeeping and Laundry staff is comprised of 2 full-time and 2 part-time employees. They work closely together and are cross-trained to do each others' jobs. This provides uninterrupted service to residents. Housekeepers clean resident rooms and the entire facility daily, including week-ends and holidays. Each resident benefits from same-day laundry services, including clothing pick-up, washing, drying, folding, and return. A labeling machine ensures that all clothing is returned to the proper owners.
The attractive, comfortable and functional facilities at Sun Dial Manor and Johnson Center are professionally maintained inside and outside- by an experienced staff. Resident rooms and accommodations are a priority of our maintenance staff. Our maintenance staff is ready to make repairs or perform service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Outside landscaping and maintenance benefits from year-round attention.
Our Business Manager keeps Sun Dial Manor on track financially along with operational financial records, the Business Manager also processes claims for Medicare, Medicaid, and private long-term care insurance.
The Medical Records Clerk maintains updated medical information for each resident, including tracking medications changes, therapy orders and filing of outdated information to keep the record current. Submitting MDS information for payment, preparing charts for physician visits and notifying families for doctor visits and Care Conferences are also on the "to-do" list.
